A Little Closer to Home
A Little Closer to Home: How I Found the Calm After the Storm | Ginger Zee
4 posts | 4 read
In Ginger Zee's follow-up to the bestselling Natural Disaster, the ABC chief meteorologist takes readers on a much deeper journey of self discovery. When Ginger Zee opened her life to readers in Natural Disaster, the response was enormous. She put a very relatable if surprising face on depression and has helped lessen the stigma surrounding mental health issues. But Ginger tells us, Natural Disaster was "Ginger Lite" and only scratched the surface. In this moving follow-up, Ginger shares her truest self. She spent most of her life shielding her vulnerabilities from the world all while being a professional people pleaser. Her stormy childhood, her ongoing struggles with crippling depression, her suicide attempts, and many other life experiences will resonate with readers who are likely to see themselves along the way. In spite of its serious subject matter, Ginger's positive, life-affirming outlook comes through loud and clear. Written with great heart and quite a bit of humor, Ginger normalizes issues and challenges millions of people face every day. A Little Closer to Home will broaden the conversation around mental health at a time we need it more than ever.

I admire Ginger so much, and found so much to relate to in “Natural Disaster” that I literally squealed when I saw this on the New Arrivals cart at work. 🥺 I‘m so glad she‘s continuing to write, because she is doing amazing work in trying to remove the stigma around discussions of mental illness. Plus, she‘s just plain brilliant, and I love to see awesome ladies doing awesome things. #alittleclosertohome #gingerzee

I've watched Good Morning America and Ginger Zee for years. I appreciate her honesty and vulnerability about her mental health. Still so much stigma around it unfortunately.

I love it when my #booktour reads are actually good! Loved this #nonfiction book which was incredibly honest and proof that therapy actually really helps you and women need to talk about stuff they face!

Also, US only giveaway in the link. 3 winners get a copy of the book.

This is Ginger's follow up book to the bestselling Natural Disaster: I Cover Them. I am One. I really enjoyed reading her story in that book and in a little closer to home, we get a much more in depth look at the life of Ginger Zee. This is raw, emotional, candid, and painfully honest. Ginger puts a real face on the real issues of mental health; Depression and anxiety, anorexia, two suicide attempts, being drugged & raped (cont in comments)

TheHeartlandBookFairy bouts with excessive drinking, and the devastating mental side effects that result from an abortion. Her honesty and her strength in working to overcome these issues is impressive! I first came to "know" Ginger Zee as a meteorologist on a local station in her home state of Michigan. She impressed me with her intelligence and her enthusiasm. Her bubbly personality and Sparkling natural beauty didn't hurt her TV presence at all. Fast forward a few years to when she she became the meteorological face of GMA and landed the impressive position of ABC News Chief Meteorologist. This girl had it all… brains, beauty, talent. But Ginger's story serves to show us that that no matter what we see on the surface, we never know what's going on underneath. Her willingness to share her imperfections with the world, to show us all what she has been through (and how far she has come despite it all) is nothing short of bravery. In peeling back the perception of perfection that the public has overlaid on her, by giving a highly recognizable face to the many and varied issues under the umbrella of mental health, Ginger will help countless individuals by her selfless act of sharing her story! 2y
