It's 1954 and Bernie has tired of his increasingly dangerous work spying on Meyer Lansky for Cuban Intelligence. He secretly buys a boat and sails to Florida, where he's arrested, sent back to Cuba and imprisoned in the Isle of Pines. There he meets Castro, a French intelligence officer who gives him an ultimatum.

Pickpick

Kind of a convoluted plot line but an enjoyable read anyway. Bernie Gunther, the Berlin cop, is in Cuba and in France and in Germany. It skips back and forth between WW2 Germany and 1954. There is great suffering as a POW and some spy-craft. I will probably read more! This is just my second.

I am starting this German WW2 and Cold War mystery that I have a copy of. Have read others in the series.
