The Killer's Girl
The Killer's Girl: A completely nail-biting crime thriller | Helen Phifer
4 posts | 1 read | 6 to read
‘Mama, wake up.’ The little girl reached for her mother’s face with one pudgy hand. But the eyes stayed closed, and the blood continued to trickle across the floor. When the body of a young woman is found, tied to her bed and the victim of a brutal attack in her own home, Detective Morgan Brookes is sickened by what she finds as she searches the house. And unprepared for the nightmares it inspires about her childhood. When the DNA collected gives a positive ID, Morgan can’t wait to put the attacker behind bars. But the person it matches to is already in prison. How could the DNA of someone who has been locked up for over twenty years have shown up in Morgan’s crime scene? And then they make another close match. To Morgan herself. Faced with the impossible proof that she is somehow connected to this case, Morgan delves deep into the crimes of a killer who stalked the Lake District two decades ago. But distracted by the old case, she misses the signs that he has found a new victim. And when he strikes close to home, Morgan finally realises that she has been living on borrowed time. To find this killer, it’s clear she must confront the nightmares in her past… A heart-racing, nerve-wracking crime thriller. Fans of Angela Marsons, Rachel Abbott and Patricia Gibney will be completely gripped. Day 4 - #12Booksof2020 #ShareTheLove @Andrew65

Setting is the Lake District. It is the 2nd book in the series but can easily be a standalone. Gabrielle Stevens is found murdered in her bed. DNA is found from Gary Marks who has been in Strangeways Prison for over 20 years. Another close match fo DC Morgan Brooks is also found. We get more information about Morgan's past and family. Is Morgan personally connected to this case?

EadieB I found the characters to be well-developed. The plot was suspenseful and kept the pages turning with lots of twists and turns. I thought I knew the killer mid-way but the author surprised me in the end. I am anxiously waiting for the next installment and I would highly recommend this series for those who love mystery-thrillers. I would like to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for a free copy for an honest review. 3y

Pickpick

This book is published next month and read it for a #NetGalley Review. Have to say totally loved it and built on the excellent standard of the first one. Love Morgan Brookes as a character, and in this one found out a lot about her back story, but so did she! Definitely need to read the books in order. She is quickly becoming one of my favourite characters. Good twists in this one, and although worked out most of what was going on didn‘t spoil it

Tove_Reads It‘s amazing how many great authors we‘ve never heard of before. I‘m wondering what gems we‘ll never find. How some make it and others don‘t I don‘t know. Marketing, luck? If Oprah or Emma would pick an unknown book for a book club read, that author would have the luck of the Irish. 3y

Really like this cover photo! I know @Andrew65 there‘s no red coat, but the swing is red, and so is the building. It‘s the second book in the Morgan Brookes series. Have you already gotten it from #NetGalley?

Andrew65 No but thanks, just requested it, got the first one from NetGalley which was a very good book. A theme of her covers is a glowing light from the house but no person on the cover. 4y
Andrew65 What Nicci French book are you reading this month? 4y
