Litany of the Long Sun: The First Half of 'The Book of the Long Sun'
Litany of the Long Sun: The First Half of 'The Book of the Long Sun' | Gene Wolfe
6 posts | 3 read | 1 to read
"Litany of the Long Sun" contains the full texts of "Nightside the Long Sun" and "Lake of the Long Sun," that together make up the first half of The Book of the Long Sun. This great work is set on a huge generation starship in the same future as the classic Book of the New Sun (also available in two volumes from Orb).

I have long since run out of superlatives for Gene Wolfe, but this is a wonderful novel. Wolfe weaves together elements of detective fiction, spy thriller, Greco-Roman mythology, Catholicism, and, of course, sci-fi. Each volume of the novel gets more dizzingly complex, drawing you into deeper and deeper mysteries.

Vansa Sounds fascinating. Haven't read any Gene Wolfe, adding this to my TBR now! 2y
JLaurenceCohen @Vansa I highly recommend his Book of the New Sun, as well! 2y

Wolfe shifts genres like a racer shifting gears

This book starts slow but accelerates furiously once you get going. As per usual, Wolfe fills every page with hints, foreshadowing, and puzzles for the reader.

What if a priest had to become a detective, thief, and politician to save his mission?

Gene Wolfe's Book of the New Sun is one of my favorite novels, so now I'm starting his Book of the Long Sun.
