Skin: it does not always have the same shade. There is a whole range and they are beautiful. This is the message you will find in this RF book by Latashia M. Perry. The book explores the beauty of diversity and how to love one's self. This is a great book to begin an AS in your classroom.

DrSpalding You are the second person to post on this book. Considering the racial tension in our world right now, having books specifically diverse books, in your classroom that are mirrors, windows and possibly sliding glass doors for your students is extremely important. Reading rockets is an excellent resource. Continue using this in the future. 4y

“She wouldn‘t trade for any other shade” This beautifully written book, Skin Like Mine, written by LaTisha M. Perry and illustrated by Bea Jackson, is a RF that truly celebrates diversity. This book illustrates wonderfully how you should love the skin you‘re in; my favorite line in the book was “because, we know it‘s what‘s inside that matters the most”. This is a great book for a class RA and a must have for your library. #ucflae3414

Emmaturtle3 ESOL strategy #22 can be used when asking questions about the text to students during RA. UDL 9.2 is a great guideline that can be used to process any personal struggles students have regarding the color of their skin, a tough yet super important conversation. 4y
Emmaturtle3 This link: https://scenicregional.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/Stories-Matter-Book.pdf is an amazing resource for teachers. It has information on how to tackle your own biases, to creating lessons to help students think critically and learn about social justice. I will for sure be using this resource in the future!! 4y
LauraLeighn I love the UDL choice, it works so well with the message of this book! It's so important for students to know they are unique and special all in their own ways, this book will definitely get the message across. Your resource is great as well, with lots of great social justice info. 4y
