On Guerrilla Gardening
On Guerrilla Gardening: A Handbook for Gardening without Boundaries | Richard Reynolds
4 posts | 3 read | 2 to read
On Guerrilla Gardening is an activist's call to arms to all citizens - green-fingered, green-thinking or curious - to join the revolution of guerrilla gardening: transforming public space into oases of colour and life. The enemy: neglect, apathy and the disintegration of community spirit. The arsenal: daring, a packet of seeds and a passionate commitment to social change. When Richard Reynolds first embarked on guerrilla gardening, growing flowers by moonlight outside his tower block, he had no idea it was part of a growing global movement committed to cultivating the potential in the land regardless of all obstacles. Charting the battles fought across thirty different countries and the revolutionary history of this subculture, On Guerrilla Gardening is an inspirational take on gardening in the 21st century.

Pickpick

"guerrilla gardening is relatively safe – but think of basic propaganda as common-sense safety. Imagine your family at your funeral, agonizing about why you were found dead on a roundabout with a fork and a tray of pansies. ?‍? Propaganda need go no further than telling them what you are doing." ? Inspiring but at times references to actual Guerrilla Warfare a bit much: "Unlike killing people, gardening really can and should be for anyone,"?

Crinoline_Laphroaig Yes I know the quote features pansies but I learned about Guerilla Gardening from their Annual Sunflower Planting on May 1st. 🌻 5y

Even when one has permission, cultivating a garden is always a fight. We cut back one plant to allow another one to flourish; we scatter seeds, but we rip up weeds and snatch away flowers and fruit before their seed has dispersed. Our gardens are scenes of savage destruction.
