Theres many who feel the Alaska Territory is no place for a woman on her own. But Charlotte Brody, suffragette and journalist, has never let public opinion dictate her life choices. Shes come to the frontier town of Cordova, where her brother Michael practices medicine, for the same reason many come to Alaskato start over. Cordova is gradually getting civilized, but the town is still rougher than Charlotte imagined. And when a local prostituteone of the working girls her brother has been treatingis found brutally murdered, Charlotte learns firsthand how rough the frontier can be. Although the town may not consider the murder of a prostitute worthy of investigation, Charlottes feminist beliefs motivate her to seek justice for the woman. And theres something elsethe woman was hiding a secret, one that reminds Charlotte of her own painful past. As Charlotte searches for answers, she soon finds her own life in danger from a cold-blooded killer desperate to keep dark secrets from seeing the light of day

megnews I‘ve considered putting this on my tbr for awhile. How was 2y
julieclair @megnews I really enjoyed it. The historical setting of Tombstone, Arizona was fascinating and felt realistic. The characters were well developed, and I liked that the story was based on true events. After reading the first several pages, I almost bailed because it seemed as though the story was going to focus primarily on her sex life, but I‘m glad I stuck with it. That aspect of her life became much less of a focus once the story got rolling. 2y

Passing this well traveled copy on to the next person on the paperback swap waiting list. I really enjoyed this first in the Charlotte Brody series, especially the setting in 1930s Alaska.

Pickpick

Just finished Murder on the Last Frontier. The setting and time period were especially interesting, turn of the century in Alaska, so I was interested from the start. Charlotte Brody, a suffragette from Yonkers, gets people irritated with her feisty attitude and curiosity. The murder of a prostitute causes both yawns and concerns from local citizens but I found her character refreshing. A little romance with the local deputy would have been nice.
