Killshot | Elmore Leonard
1 post | 6 read | 3 to read
The King of Cool returns with another thrilling tale of crime capers. Arman 'The Blackbird' Degas is a professional hitman: one shot, one kill. But when he's carjacked by ex-con Richie Nix, he finds himself with a lethal partner. Nix is on his way to shake down a realtor and the Blackbird is along for the ride. But they don't count on Carmen and Wayne Colson getting in their way. Exposed as eyewitnesses, the Colsons are placed in witness protection but soon discover the program contains as many predators as the underworld they're hiding from. But can they outrun the Blackbird...?

I love Elmore Leonard, but it can be challenging to know what to read from the prolific author! I vaguely recall picking this one up after it was included in a book about books. Married couple Wayne & Carmen Colson are happily living their lives in Michigan when they are caught in a crime involving Carmen's boss & two mismatched yet dangerous criminals. Wayne & Carmen enter Witness Protection

vivastory & are forced to flee to Cape Girardeau, MO but the odd couple villains are bent on finding them. This features all of the trademarks that makes Leonard's books great: crackling dialogue, memorable & frequently oddball characters, tense situations that don't feel implausible. These same trademarks are great source material for movie & tv adaptations & there was a brief renaissance of stellar Leonard adaptations in the mid-90s. 2y
vivastory Get Shorty (Travolta's second best 90s movie), Jackie Brown (underrated Tarantino) & Out of Sight (remains my fave Clooney movie). There is a story that while the cast were filming Justified they would wear bracelets that read WWED; What Would Elmore Do? 2y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Sounds really good! 2y
