I really really enjoyed this book. It tells the story of a boy who is born with facial deformities and his experience of starting school. He is homeschooled until the 6th grade which then he is out into school and deals with the struggles of bullying, making friends, and much more
If you like books that are about emotional story‘s then you‘ll really enjoy this
The theme of this novel is both internal and external struggles with self confidence
“I wish every day could be Halloween. We could all wear masks all the time. Then we could walk around and get to know each other before we got to see what we looked like under the masks.”
This book can be heavy and emotional but it teaches such great lessons and could even be used in guided reading groups.
Graphic novel. Published 2012. This is a book that is now a movie as well. I remember seeing it in my classrooms when I was in school and my peers really loved it. It‘s about a kid who has a severe facial difference and has not attended a school until he starts 5th grade and wants to be treated like any other normal kid. There‘s a lot of lessons that can be learned from this read!
"Shall we make a new rule of life...always try to be a little kinder than is necessary?"
I'm reading this book aloud with one of my book clubs for the library, and when we got to this part today I definitely started crying! ?
I thought this was a good book overall. It was cute and I really liked it. I thought it was really neat how you get to read from some of the other character‘s perspectives.

This would be a great book to do for a daily read aloud for your students. This is a good plot that is easy for students to follow along, this book that also gives a message about bullying and being kind to one another.

I've had the sort of day where I needed to hear this quote. So I'm sharing it with you too.

I enjoyed this book and I think it‘s one every kid should read. I especially liked getting to hear from multiple characters to help understand how differently everyone experienced the same events.
@Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Misty! I totally forgot about the package you sent. I hid it from myself and you can guess the rest of the story. 🤣
Thank you so so much for the book and card! I‘m going to read this with Matty! 💕💕💕

Got some reading in while staffing the basketball admissions table at my kids‘ school. A really quick read that was hard to put down. Loved the story being told from different perspectives. Loved Auggie and his circle of friends and family. Hate that it took me so long to pick this up off my shelf! It also restored my faith in my print book reading speed. I finished this in 3 days. Haven‘t done that in ages!
August Pullman is a 10 year old boy who has had to undergo 27 surgeries. These surgeries have caused many scars and facial abnormalities causing him to be very self conscious. Due to his insecurities, he has been homeschooled his entire life. He is about to enter 5th grade when his parents make the recommendation that he attends school for his first time. Although he doesn‘t like the idea, he decides to give it a try.

Finally got around to reading this charmer in #March and enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I was looking for something uplifting at the time and I definitely found it 🙂
@Andrew65
This book was AMAZING! Wonder shows you that even though not everyone looks like each other it doesn't make them any less of a person. You should always show kindness to everyone because you never know what they are going through on the inside. August Pullman (main character) was unbelievably strong because of the way he was treated at school. He never lost is cool but only grew kinder out the way he was treated by kids in the school. Great book!!
My 6th graders and I finished reading Wonder this week! I was honestly skeptical when I found out we were going to be reading it because I saw the movie which I thought was a one-dimensional feel-good story… but I ended up sincerely enjoying reading it w/ my students. I loved seeing them share their thoughts about & make connections w/ the book! It truly feels like we‘ve been on a journey together these past 8 weeks 🥺
Loved! It was hard to get used to the narrator since it was written in the kids perspective but once I did it just flew.

Different, but not quite ordinary. This New York Times best Seller is about the story of August Pullman. A 5th grader who was born with a facial difference that prevented him from going to traditional school. His story was heart warming and motivational!
I read this quite a while ago, but I do like this description! #BookRiotQuiz What Children‘s Book Character Are You?

This book never grows old. I read it to my fifth graders every year. And they love it every year.
Wonder! This book is about a young boy with a deformity, finding his way through school, friends, and family. This RF IR is a great book for students who are struggling with their differences! https://ncte.org/statement/independent-reading/ UDL: 3.2 highlight patterns, features, and relationships- as auggie builds with his peers.
August was born was a facial deformity and has been home schooled until forth grade. Now his parents have decided that its time for August to go to school and this is where our journey with August begins.
This is one of those books with all the feels. I laughed, I was beyond angry, I cried, I understood, I hoped, I cried, I smiled, I learned.
If this book isn't mandatory reading for middle school it should be.
Wonder is a RF and New York Times bestseller which is definitely worth its title there, and the many other awards it has won across the world. The story about an ordinary boy under special circumstances teaches kids that it is okay to be different! This is a must have in the classroom library, and would be great for either IR or LC. https://languageartsclassroom.com/2019/01/independent-reading-and-class-novels.h... #ucflae3414sp21
What a beautiful story about kindness, acceptance and bravery. I definitely cried a few times whilst reading. Auggie is an amazing little dude who shows the world that it is what is on the inside that counts. This is an inspiring and uplifting book in which goodness wins out against hate and many life lessons are dished out.
didn't really make any connections but saw what it was like when people thought u were different and were not looked at as normal.
I think began the story the way he did because wanted to show us what the main character's life is and what he goes through. and how he ended was like most movies books and ended in a positive way.
I read this book because I‘ve seen the movie and I wanted to read the book too. This book explained a lot more about how a boy who had a birth defect affected his way of being a student in school and just being a kid. This book touches on topics that many kid‘s who suffer from birth defects go through. I totally recommend!
“Be Kind , for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle”
I so needed the tissues when watching this!!
What a beautiful film . We have just taken some time out of homeschool to watch this. Iv not read the book but can only imagine how great it is. Will be putting it on my TBR list .. sniff 😢

August Pullman was born with a facial difference that, up until now, has prevented him from going to a mainstream school. Starting 5th grade at Beecher Prep, he wants nothing more than to be treated as an ordinary kid—but his new classmates can‘t get past Auggie‘s extraordinary face. #innerbeauty #thankfulthoughts
Keeping Language in mind:
Did the author use language to create a feeling or picture in your mind? What words did the author use and how did s/he create this picture in your mind?
When the author was describing the school setting and describing Auggies point of view it made me Think about what the school would look like and What auggie looks like and has gone thru.
This book is superb! The main character, Auggie Pullman is a young boy living with a facial deformaty and is always the star of his own story.
A great read for younger tweens and teens to help teach that you can't judge a person by the way they look. It also gives us insight into how a family copes with hardship.
There are funny parts, serious parts& parts that might make you cry. It is an easy read and would be a great book for anyone. 😁 ⭐
This is the First book comes to my mind when I think of #Halloween Have you read this book ? And the movie is equally good too!
Day 12: #wordsofoctober
Currently, I'm reading wonder and I'm getting in the book. Right now in the book, I am at the point where Auggie is getting a tour of the school he might be going to. The book is very enjoyable and one of the best I have read. The book is nice to read when you have time and is a very interesting and inspiring book. I like what they did with the book and how they put Auggies situation inside it too.
Genre: Children's literature
At first when I saw the cover I thought it wouldn't be as exciting as most stories, but when I read a few chapters I got interested.
As the story progressed everyone mostly talked about how Auggie (Protagonist) was born with a rare face deformity. No one would approach him at first because of his face, but later on in the story he was able to make new friends through his actions.
I selected the book because i heard about the movie but never watched it so i decided to just read the book.
This had been on my TBR for far too long. So glad I finally picked it up.
5 stars
This was a pretty cute story! I had seen the movie before reading this, but that was about three years ago, so I only remembered bits and pieces. I think I like the movie better, though! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
