Don't miss the chance to download THE THREAD by Victoria Hislop on special celebratory offer throughout June. The enthralling novel from the million-copy bestselling author of THE ISLAND and THE RETURN. Thessaloniki, 1917. As Dimitri Komninos is born, a devastating fire sweeps through the thriving Greek city where Christians, Jews and Muslims live side by side. Five years later, Katerina Sarafoglou's home in Asia Minor is destroyed by the Turkish army. Losing her mother in the chaos, she flees across the sea to an unknown destination in Greece. Soon her life will become entwined with Dimitri's, and with the story of the city itself, as war, fear and persecution begin to divide its people. Thessaloniki, 2007. A young Anglo-Greek hears his grandparents' life story for the first time and realises he has a decision to make. For many decades, they have looked after the memories and treasures of the people who were forced to leave. Should he become their next custodian and make this city his home?

The story has the city of Thessaloniki as one of it's main characters, apart from Dimitri and Katerina and many other characters that are compassionate and kind. The people of irini street are just wow, and I loved all the aspects of kindness that is involved in the book. A heart warming read.

This told the story of Greece, specifically the city of Thessaloniki from the 1930's and through the upheavals the country endured in the ensuing years. The story centered around Dmitri and Katerina and how their lives unfolded during these years. I enjoyed this book even mor than the first one I read by this author.

A little known historical footnote for the rest of the world, a great tragedy for the Greek history, a trip into the past for the nostalgic, a pre-war peaceful melting pot of religions in a mythical Thessaloniki whose streets you seem to walk along with the characters, thanks to the gifted writer.

This book has made me realise how much our parents do to secure a future for us. How many sacrifices they have to make to do that and how grateful we should be for that. God couldn't come down physically to each of us, thus he created parents. :)

The Thread was an amazing story of the history of Greece through both World Wars, the interwar and post-war years. A beautiful story about a beautiful country. Perfect for relaxed seaside reading! ❤️
