Illus. in full color. "Dr. Seuss chronicles the feud between the Yooks andthe Zooks from slingshots through sophisticated weaponry, until each side hasthe capacity to destroy the world. The language amuses, the drawings are zestyand humorous, and the demand for this book will be large."-- "School LibraryJournal." "Provocative, packs an allegorical punch. The parade ofincreasingly elaborate (and ridiculous) armaments makes a tellingpoint."-- "Booklist."

Pickpick

Little did I know that when I picked up The Butter Battle Book at the library I actually picked up “Dr. Seuss Does an Arms Race”! The Yooks and the Zooks butter their bread differently, which leads to weapons, culminating with the creation of the “Big-Boy Boomeroo,” a tiny device that, if dropped, will annihilate the enemy. Could be humorous if not for current events. A few world leaders should read this book. It‘s right at their reading level.

Abby-J Wait until you realize The Sneetches is about the Holocaust. (edited) 6y
TheWordJar @Abby-J I‘ve never read The Sneetches! But isn‘t Yertle the Turtle an anti-fascism parable too? I like that he‘s deeper than just One Fish, Two Fish! (edited) 6y
SaraBeagle My husband teaches this when they cover the Cold War in his history class 6y
Cheshirecat913 @Abby-J 😲 I didn't realize that! Wow, interesting to see it in that light. 6y

Pickpick

I would suggest a few world leaders read this, but I‘m afraid it would encourage them to race to be first to drop the Boomeroo 😞.
