Published in 1964, Flat Stanley is a beginners chapter book that follows a young boy named Stanley after he wakes up one morning completely flat. This fiction book takes you on a journey with him as he lives his life completely flat and goes on different adventures. This would be a great chapter book to read to early elementary students because it is short and funny. It also includes pictures that could be used to help keep the students engaged

kallikramer This is a great story to read to students to inform them of other students cultures and backgrounds and to show them that we all have differences but are all important in our classroom family.

A few ‘Flat Stanley‘ he‘s not really into those, my aunt gave them to him when cleaning out her classroom. He has 1-5 of ‘Captain Underpants‘, 1-3 of Big Nate which he said he likes since she‘s read some of them at school. He LOVES ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid‘ ... and some sports things of course, they are basically stuffed funkos #secretsantakids

Flat Stanley is a classic!! It‘s a F story about a little boy who wakes up to find he has been flattened by his bulletin board! It sounds tragic but since he is flat like paper he can now be rolled, mailed, and turn into a kite. It is a wonderful RA or IR to help the transition to chapter books for children. Now this was one of my favorite book growing to because of this activity I am about to share. #UCFLAE3414f17

MeganMc http://www.flatstanleyproject.com. This is one of the most long lasting literacy project on the web. How it works is you color, and cut out your own flat Stanley. Then you mail him to a family member, a celebrity, or a friend. They then take pictures with him, create a journal of what they did and send him back. (edited) 6y
MeganMc I remember doing this in first grade and at the time my dad was deployed to Korea. It was so awesome to see my flat Stanley “follow” my dad around Korea. (He also sent back an amazing journal entry and Korean money for the class to see). The UDL I would implement is 8.3 foster collaboration and community. The EL is 32 use student pairs for team learning, especially for reports, experiments and projects. 6y
Floribelg It's been on my reading list since I can remember. I sadly never read or even heard of Flat Stanley until I was in the education major. Think it's so sweet how you still have memories about this activity. Shows that it's a must in every teachers library. 6y
