The Moth and the Flame
The Moth and the Flame: A Wrath & the Dawn Short Story | Renée Ahdieh
6 posts | 32 read | 11 to read
It started as playful, if barbed, banter before rising to a fateful wager with a most notorious rake—the Captain of the Guard, Jalal al-Khoury—who may have finally met his match in a lovely, if haughty, handmaiden, Despina. But she, too, seems to have met her match in the handsome Jalal. What begins as a tempestuous battle of will and wit in short order becomes a passionate affair spurred on by tragedy of the worst kind.

I‘m still obsessed with this series! I‘ve moved on to reading the 3 short stories that the author wrote!

This one is Jalal and Despina‘s story. So lovely and sweet. It‘s only 50 pages, so it‘s a really quick read!

I loved Jalal and Despina in Wrath and the Dawn. Their story definitely needed to be told! I almost liked this novella better that the book itself! Definitely read it!

A great prequel to The Wrath and the Dawn! Loved the insight it gave into Despina's past, and the glimpse we got of Ava. It was written with the same beautiful style; though short, it was simply wonderful.

This was my favourite of the three shorts. Gave a good insight into the start of Despina and Jalal's relationship and we got to meet Ava too.

Loved this!!! I adored Despina and Jalal in The Wrath and the Dawn and came to love them even more in this wonderful background story. The first Calipha also makes an appearance, very sad. Perfect way to get ready for The Rose and the Dagger next month.
