Lunatics
Lunatics | Dave Barry, Alan Zweibel
4 posts | 4 read | 4 to read
Philip Horkman is a happy man, the owner of a pet store called The Wine Shop, and on Sundays a referee for a local kids’ soccer league. Jeffrey Peckerman is the proud and loving father of a star athlete in the girls’ ten-and-under soccer league, and he’s not exactly happy with the ref. The two of them are about to collide in a swiftly escalating series of events that will send them running for their lives, pursued by the police, soldiers, subversives, bears, revolutionaries, pirates, and a black ops team that does not exist. Where all that takes them you can’t even begin to guess, but the literary journey there is a masterpiece of inspiration, chaos, and unadulterated, well, lunacy. And they might even learn a lesson or two along the way. From the Trade Paperback edition.

A dispute between a ref at a children‘s soccer game and one of the fathers turns into a battle between the two men which rapidly escalates hilariously into utterly ridiculous events that frankly had me laughing almost continuously. My mom says she hasn‘t laughed this much at a book in a long time. We both loved it!

I know this is supposed to be funny, and maybe, in 2012, it would have been. But, like the rest of this book, the humor just never really worked for me. Maybe I'm just not in the right mood for this book, but yeah, I don't think I really "had!!!!" to read this. #davebarry #alanzweibel #lunatics

My boss at the library told me I "had to read this!" Previously, my only experience with Dave Barry's writing was the "Peter and the Starcatchers" series, the humor and cleverness of which I enjoyed. But, I'm 100 pages in, and I have to say that this one really isn't giving me much of a clue as to why I "had to read" it. It's funny-ish, but. We'll see. #davebarry #lunatics
