Monica Hughes was THE children‘s SF author according to my junior high teachers. She was a big part of grade 7 Language Arts, and I HATED her books. HATED them. I don‘t even remember why now, except that I thought the protagonist of CRISIS ON CONSHELF 10 was awful. Stupid Keplar.

I‘ve often wondered if Adult Me might appreciate her more than 12-Year-Old Me. I found the Isis Light books in a Little Free Library today, so now I can find out.

Larkken Never heard of her! 5mo
xicanti @Larkken she was a British-born Canadian with a British publisher, so I‘m not sure how far her books travelled outside of her two countries. 5mo
Larkken Interesting! I only say something as it seems like something my mom (a middle school educator) might well have pointed me to. I‘ll look out for your reviews! 5mo

#lighthouses cue made me think of this book, which I read in school. Can only remember it vaguely (with a Wikipedia refresher), but was possibly the first sci-fi I read. Themes of loneliness and prejudice. Might give it a reread. #marchintoreading @RealLifeReading

Perfect childhood book nostalgia right here. I usually turned my nose up at anything from the school library, but this was on of the few I read in grade school that was age appropriate and stuck with me. Was super pleased when I found the trilogy online.
