I was 17 years old in 1994, when the Real World San Francisco aired. And there, I, and the world, met Pedro Zamora. This is a beautiful tribute to him, and Judd Winik handles Pedro‘s story as a true friend. It is funny and sweet and hopeful and so desperately sad. Pedro should still be here. He‘d be 47 now, and he‘s been gone for more years than he lived. But he made a difference. I‘m glad Judd told his story.

Pedro and Me is a biography written by Judd Winick. It also talks about his own life with friendship, loss, and lessons learned. This book was written in 2000. It is very realistic because the author tells personal stories. At the end, the author added updates and organizations that correlate with the story.

The Real World in San Francisco was my favorite season ❤️ I loved seeing pieces of it from Judd‘s point of view
-Why did our friendship work? Because we liked candy ring pops.
-Because we liked sitting on rocks watching pelicans.
-Because we liked taking goofy pictures.
- But mostly because we weren‘t really the stereotypes our backgrounds or TV made us out to be. We were more. And we saw that in each other.

Started my bookish weekend tonight with #bookbrawl @ King‘s Books. It was a discussion among panelists of their favorite book related to HIV/AIDS, with a portion of the proceeds going to Pierce County AIDS Foundation. I got to learn about 4 books, & it was a great discussion. I‘d love to go to another one 🙂📚

#tbt to 1994: The Real World San Francisco had an openly gay, openly HIV+ man in the cast. And he had a boyfriend, and they had a commitment ceremony on tv! My little baby dyke heart went pitter pat because I saw that there were people in the world like me, and they could be in love and have regular lives. I cried when Pedro died. This book is a beautiful testament to his life and memory on World AIDS Day, and it's also a chronicle of friendship.

8little_paws Oh I loved early seasons of TRW!! 7y
Dragon I'm watching a documentary called How to Survive a Plague about activism and the development of treatments for HIV. 7y
