A Politics of Love
A Politics of Love: A Handbook for a New American Revolution | Marianne Williamson
12 posts | 2 read | 3 to read
In this stirring call to arms, the activist, spiritual leader, and New York Times bestselling author of the classic Return to Love confronts the cancerous politics of fear and divisiveness threatening the United States today, urging all spiritually aware Americans to return toand act out ofour deepest value: love. Americas story is one of great social achievement. From the Abolitionists who fought to outlaw slavery, to the Suffragettes who championed womens right to vote, to the Civil Rights proponents who battled segregation and institutionalized white supremacy, to the proponents of the womens movement and gay rights seeking equality for all, citizens for generations have risen up to fulfill the promise of our nation. Over the course of Americas history, these activists have both embodied and enacted the nations deepest values. Today, America once again is in turmoil. A spiritual cancer of fear threatens to undo the progress we have achieved. Discord and hatred are dissolving our communal bonds and undermining the spirit of social responsibilitythe duty we feel toward one another. In this powerful spiritual manifesto, Marianne Williamson offers a tonic for this cultural malignancy. She urges us to imitate the heroes of our past and live out our deepest spiritual commitment: where some have sown hatred, let us now sow love. Williamson argues that we must do more than respond to external political issues. We must address the deeper, internal causes that have led to this current dysfunction. We need a new, whole-person politics of love that stems not just from the head but from the heart, not just from intellectual understanding but from a genuine affection for one another. By committing to love, we will make a meaningful contribution to the joyful, fierce and disruptive energies that are rising at this critical point in time. In the words of Abraham Lincoln, "we must think anew, and act anew . . . and then we shall save our country."

Marianne Williamson‘s book should really be required reading if you‘re a registered voter. She combines her course in miracles with a civics lesson. My mom taught high school social studies with an emphasis on government. I wish schools still taught how important our responsibilities are as citizens. Williamson really elevates our current discussion on American politics. A must-read! 🗳

If you think Williamson is a bit strange, that‘s okay. But she says a lot things that make sense. This book isn‘t religious, it‘s about getting back to where we should be, to helping each other, to realize our strength when we come together. Please read this book, look around, and ask where our country is going. #vote

Politics... when we get it right, it can be a beautiful thing, but when we get it wrong it can be a terrible thing. And we are all responsible for that. With every election, with every campaign, we are deciding something extremely important. We are deciding what is possibly the fate of millions, the fate of the earth, even perhaps the fate of humanity.

The whole idea of national boundaries is a man-made material category. National borders have a place in our material functioning. But they should be used to organize our societies, not to divide our hearts.

For every problem, whether personal or societal, the solution lies in the realization of our oneness and the expansion of our love.

quote

As with any other species, our opportunity for survival lies in the presence of an evolutionary alternative, or mutation. For the human species, that mutation is a mutation of consciousness.

quote
JenniferEgnor

A world in which we habitually and powerfully attack not only each other but even our own habitat, is a world the laws of evolution will not support.

quote
JenniferEgnor

History has shown us what fear can do, but it also has shown us what love can do.

quote
JenniferEgnor

Peaceful revolution is waged not with guns or bullets or violence, but with votes and consciousness and love.

quote
JenniferEgnor

A democratic revolution can‘t be fought once, as in 1776, and then simply considered handled. Democracy is never safe from those who find it inconvenient to their purposes. Every generation has to rise up in its own time, face the challenges of its own day, and continue the revolution in its own way.

Went to the library yesterday looking to check out Williamson‘s book—got it and bought these other three. I am really excited to read this in her perspective. Our nation is in a dark time and it is critical that we turn it around. #lovewins
