Then, a spider's bite granted the teenager incredible arachnid-like powers. Now, Miles has been thrust into a world he doesn't understand, with only gut instinct and a little thing called responsibility as his guides. Can he live up to Peter's legacy as Spider-Man? As Miles grapples with his new life, Miles' Uncle Aaron - a.k.a. the Prowler - learns his secret! He's got plans for his nephew, but little does he know that the Scorpion is on his tail! So much Spider-Man! My earlier posts listed the wrong volume. The correct one is tagged for this post. Regardless, my first foray into the Miles Morales storyline—courtesy of my daughter who said I should read it—was a good one. This volume deals with how Morales becomes the new Spider-Man, how he has to navigate family—and oh, what a family—and the appearance of someone most unexpected. Good artwork, good storylines and an all around good read.

The friendship between these two teens is a highlight of this comic series. Miles Morales, the newest Spider-man, is African American and Hispanic. Ganke Lee, a chubby, gay Asian American, keeps the secret of his best bud's superhero identity.

This is his origin storyline. I enjoyed getting to know him through these issues. He is a kid like the kids I teach. We need more superheroes like him! #boutofbooks
