“Ding dong! And so did her friends.”
I loved the illustrations in this book, they made her outfit look like exactly what I was picturing in my head. The author really paints a picture in your head with their vivid descriptions.
Ella Sarah Gets Dressed by Margaret Chodos-Irvine was written in 2003 and is a Caldecott Honor book. I think this book teaches a good message about being yourself. Ella Sarah is told by everyone around her that they don‘t like what she wants to wear, but she sticks to her gut and wears what she wants and her friends love it and are dressed just like her. This can promote individuality among children and help them be comfortable with themselves.
I love how although Ella Sarah‘s whole family tried to get her to wear something more “normal” than her colorful and mis-matched outfit, she still wears what she wants to wear and finds it perfect. I also liked how her friends appreciated her outfit, and they even had creative and mis-matched outfits on themselves.
