pick50 contemporary poets respond to a poem of their choice from the past: great idea! As with all anthologies, there are hits and misses. I regret to conclude that in many cases the original poem was clearly the stronger of the two and, for me, the smirking smart-arse school of poetry was over-represented. Brought to mind the Salvator Rosa portrait whose Latin motto loosely translates as "either say something better than silence or shut the hell up."
So, Mr Thomas. Dylan, if I may. Paint a picture for me. These poems you've written: who is your target audience?
