Gladiators at Pompeii
Gladiators at Pompeii | Luciana Jacobelli
1 post
The ruins of Pompeii reveal more graphically than anywhere else in the Roman world the vital role that gladiators and gladiatorial combat played in society. While most gladiators were slaves or prisoners of war forced into a career of battle, others were criminals or free men from prominent families who aspired to fame and fortune. Surprisingly there were even records of women gladiators.
