I love that this series of books helps children understand emotions and what they really are. I feel that with the pictures in the story you also feel the greed and the largeness that is the giant.

This book is very simple but I think that simplicity will appeal to children. The use of bigger words and longer passages will really help a child to develop there vocabulary. On the other side you have pictures that have simple lines and colors but the author does well to use those lines to convey depth and really make the part of the story with the giant feel big. It conveys how massive everything is.

janeycanuck Yes, but can we trust this Renaissance UK group? I‘m willing to bet that if you look into it, you‘ll find Mr. Greedy and co are the source of Renaissance UK‘s funding and that this is nothing more than a thinly veiled attempt to drum up publicity for the Mr Men group and drive more money into their pockets! 5y

thebluestocking I just read the article. That seems like a really odd rating scale they came up with. 5y

squirrelbrain I just read an article about this in The Times. The scale goes from 0 to 13 so Gulliver‘s Travels was ‘off the scale‘. ??? Surely that just means their scale is wrong, because otherwise it means that GT is too difficult and therefore impossible to read?! Ooh I‘m getting cross! @thebluestocking @RachelO 5y

rockpools @squirrelbrain @thebluestocking Exactly! Plus ‘Mr Bell said that sometimes teachers needed to be steered away from giving Steinbeck's texts to primary school pupils.‘ Seriously??! My guess would be that teachers deploy a healthy dose of sarcasm when working with these guys. Genuinely confused as to whether this scale serves any useful purpose! 5y
