I try to read one essay every day, which gets me through a variety of essays each year. This collection, which has a lot of super important things to say & which definitely advances the discussion about how social media is used by Black women to form community, to educate, and to act, is a bit too conversational for me. I do follow the author on Twitter and Instagram & I was glad to buy & read this book. 3.5 ⭐️

Weaponxgirl That‘s a awesome way to read essay collections. 5y
suzisteffen @Weaponxgirl It‘s a good way for me to be sure to read at least one a month! I‘m not sure what I‘ll read next - I‘d love for it to be Hanif Abdurraqib‘s new book. We‘ll see! That‘s this book - 5y
Weaponxgirl @suzisteffen ohh, hell yeah! I‘ve not got been able to get my hand on that one yet. I‘m actually in the process of choosing what books to download for my night shift. Sometimes I get to read. I‘ve been looking at this one 5y

suzisteffen @Weaponxgirl yes! THICK is splendid. I read it in February! LOVED it. So freaking great. Dr. Tressie McMillan Cottom is such a brilliant person and clear writer. 5y
suzisteffen Also, I just found out Go Ahead in the Rain is available in audio on Hoopla Digital at my library, so I‘m going to see if I can read it that way (I have it on hold at the library as a physical book, but whew the wait). 5y
Weaponxgirl @suzisteffen hoopla doesn‘t seem to be great in the uk for some reason. I‘m jealous! Oh library waits for new books are the worst. I‘m sure I‘m never gonna get to read Michelle Obama‘s memoir. Or probably not this year anyway. 5y
suzisteffen @Weaponxgirl I wasn‘t sure if you even had Hoopla, so that‘s good to know. Sometimes it‘s good here and sometimes not. I wish publishers and libraries could agree more on ebooks and audiobooks! 5y
Weaponxgirl @suzisteffen I‘ve seen it in the App Store here but nowt on it for me. Overdrive is where it‘s at for me. Yes! Library resources are so different everywhere. I‘m super lucky and in a well supplied area, I‘d be sorted if I wasn‘t often into more “obscure “ writers. 5y

“Reading about the disparity in Black and White infant mortality is making me depressed, but I‘m always here to hear more about what a badass Serena Williams is.” - Oliver T. Cat, without his reading glasses. #catsoflitsy #essays

This was an excellent examination of Black feminism‘s influential rise. I liked the various topics she examines, I definitely learned a lot. As a frequent Twitter user the chapter on Twitter was a lot of info I already knew but the rest of the book was very eye-opening.
