The Usborne Classical Music Reference Book | 
pickA detailed, yet brief and wide-ranging history of classical music. It‘s meant for kids, but I think it‘s a nice, quick starter for anyone at about 30 pages. There are QR links to listen to music every other page (which I didn‘t use), a nice touch. Originally I bought this for a friends daughters, but based on their personality (and how atrociously they treat books) this will live a better life somewhere else.
