Howtoons: [re]ignition Volume 1 | Fred Van Lente
2 posts | 1 read
The critically acclaimed, best-selling YA series returns with an all-new, sci-fi DIY adventure! Celine and Tuck's parents put them to sleep for centuries to ride out the energy crisis -- but when they awake in the far future and Mom and Dad are missing, it's the kids who have to save the day! Celine and Tuck must explore a strange, new Earth using their gadgeteering skills to create projects and experiments to survive hostile tribes and bizarre mechanized threats -- projects and experiments kids and parents can make themselves at home, and learn basic energy literacy at the same time! Collects HowToons: [Re]Ignition #1-5, along with backup strips/projects by series originators Nick Dragotta and MacArthur 'Genius' Grant winner Saul Griffith.

This has a lot going for it, and I love how it incorporates build-it-yourself science for kids into the story. It‘s a unique storytelling format. I didn‘t think highly of the representation of the gaggle of orphaned children as feral tribal people. The environmental messages are a little heavy handed (I appreciated them up to a point before I even found myself feeling like they were a bit much). #Science #Comics

Your parents have been missing for a week and you just found their vehicle nose-dived into a fountain. But sure, waiting for them to come back seems like a logical conclusion to me 😂 #comic #Apocalypse

Clare-Dragonfly I guess at least waiting there gives you time to come up with the next plan! 2y
