In defence of English cooking
In defence of English cooking | George Orwell
4 posts | 2 read
Every book tells a story . . . And the 70 titles in the Pocket Penguins series are emblematic of the renowned breadth and quality that formed part of the original Penguin vision in 1935 and that continue to define our publishing today. Together, they tell one version of the unique story of Penguin Books. Not only was George Orwell one of the greatest writers and most important political thinkers of the twentieth century, he is also the author of the bestselling Penguin title of all time: Animal Farm , first published in Penguin in 1951. These heartfelt essays demonstrate Orwell's broad appeal, and range from political manifesto to affectionate consideration of what being English truly means.

Bklover I have never seen Yorkshire pudding! Thanks for sharing- looks yummy! 5y
LA_Mead Ooh yummy! 5y
Endowarrior21 Huh my Yorkshire puddings always sunk in the middle and my popovers are puffy like that they are recipes from my great grandmother. I will have to see if I can get my Yorkshires to puff 😁. Btw in my house they are two different things hence why I called them Popovers and yours look very good. 5y
Tianarose @Endowarrior21 I turn my oven off but leave them in for an extra 10-15 minutes to set. Keeps them from falling. Plus having the ingredients(eggs and milk) at room temp. 5y

3 days off work have made me ambitious. Cooking pot roast and Yorkshire pudding (aka popovers) and apparently my oven is too dirty for a good picture!!

Clwojick Yorkshire! 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤 One of my absolute favourites. 5y
Tianarose @Clwojick ours too. I just rarely have time for the whole big meal we usually do with them. My kids like the full roast spread. 5y

Cute, quick. The war and nationalist essays are topical.
