Dead Man Running | Steve Hamilton

Alex McKnight--hero of Steve Hamilton's bestselling, award-winning, and beloved private eye series--is back in a high-stakes, nail-biting thriller, facing the most dangerous enemy he's ever encountered. On the Mediterranean Sea, a vacationer logs onto the security camera feed from his home in Scottsdale, Arizona. Something about his living room seems not quite right--the room is bright, when he's certain he'd left the curtains closed. Rewinding through the feed, he sees an intruder. When he shifts to the bedroom camera, he sees the dead body. Martin T. Livermore is the key suspect in the abduction and murder of at least five women, but he's never been this sloppy before. When the FBI finally catches him in Scottsdale, he declares he'll only talk to one person: a retired police officer from Detroit, now a private investigator living in the tiny town of Paradise, Michigan. A man named Alex McKnight. Livermore means nothing to McKnight, but it soon becomes clear McKnight means something to Livermore. . . and that Livermore's capture was only the beginning of an elaborate, twisted plot with McKnight at the center. In a hunt that will take him across the country and to the edge of his limits, McKnight fights to stop a vicious killer before he can exact his ultimate revenge. And his grand finale will cut closer to home than he ever could have imagined.

I told my husband about the #Jolabokaflod tradition and we decided to start it this year! When we went to pick books, we ended up choosing 2 instead of 1 ❤️❤️
The top 2 are the ones my husband chose for me.
The bottom 2 are the ones I chose for my husband.
Pictured with an assorted box of chocolates from a local chocolate shop! 🍫 Now to choose what to read first 🤔

I‘ve been a big fan of the Alex McKnight series for a long time. The action usually takes place in Paradise, Michigan, on Lake Superior. I‘ve known the area my whole life, so love the setting. This one takes Alex out of that area. It had me worried, but there were just enough ties to the area to satisfy me. It‘s also a suspenseful tale with a serial killer! Glad to have you back Alex McKnight!

1. Ah, retirement. Tink, reading, watching t.v., listening to podcasts while I clean, or sitting on the porch with neighbors.

2. I started playing HQ and won 71 cents on my third game! 🤣🤣

3. Dairy is fine. Love cheese!

4. Tagged above. So happy to be back with Alex McKnight. 🕵🏻‍♂️🛌

5. Feb. 2016. Fell and broke my ankle. Had surgery. Since I live alone I was in a rehab facility for two months! Glad that‘s behind me.

Just started this advance copy of one of my favorite series! It has been 5 years since the last one, I was getting worried.

Pickpick

I received this book as an #ARC in a Goodreads giveaway. I never read an Alex McKnight book before but there was enough exposition that I didn't feel completely lost. It starts out with a bang, and turns into a pretty tense cat and mouse between Alex and the killer. It has that same feel of a long running series like Alex Cross or Eve Duncan. But I found it engaging and it kept me turning pages into the wee hours.
