T is for Tree
T is for Tree | Greg Fowler

Eddy knows he's not like other teenagers. He doesn't look like them. He doesn't think like them. He doesn't go to school or have friends like they do. Eddy's not even allowed to leave his bedroom – except on shower day of course. He doesn't know why; all Eddy knows is that he's different. Abandoned by his mother and kept locked away by his grandmother, Eddy must spend his life watching the world go by from his bedroom window. Until Reagan Crowe moves in next door and everything starts to change. She's kind, funny, beautiful, and most importantly, she's Eddy's first friend. Over time, Reagan introduces Eddy to the strange and wonderful world outside his bedroom: maths, jam, love. But growing up isn’t that simple for either of them. And Eddy has a secret. The tree that's slowly creeping in through his window from the garden is no ordinary tree. But then again, Eddy's no ordinary boy. He's special... Set over the course of five years, T is for Tree is moving, life-affirming, and shows that we can all find greatness in the small things.

Mehso-so

I have two minds on this book. It‘s gripping (to a degree, at least), bold and sent me on a mini emotional rollercoaster; yet I found myself feeling slightly unsatisfied after completion. I can‘t quite put my finger on what it is, but it may have something to do with the end coming up so fast, without all my questions being answered. I‘m not sure if this was Fowler‘s intention, but it‘s safe to say I‘m left a little disappointed 📚🦈

Book_Shark Also, I did not enjoy the representation of eddy, and why the author felt a need to turn him into a genius, and make him success fall down to a magic tree and not all his hard work. As a previous review stated, to go from almost completely illiterate a few years before, to achieving straight A*s in his GCSE‘s seems far to unrealistic and unnecessary for this particular story, and made me raise my eyebrows in disbelief. It felt lazy and unpolished. (edited) 6y

So... what did I miss? I know I‘ve been gone for a while, but with exams and the excitement of University approaching, I really haven‘t had much time to read (other than my study guides) at all! Never mind though, I‘m back now, and you‘ll be hearing a lot more from me... Happy reading 📚🦈
