Reading these books on a nightly basis with Chaya have made wonderful discussions and memories. I told her when she is a little bit older I will take her to the actual place where the sit-ins took place. I'm not ready for her to see all the inhumane things that people do to each other.

Thank you for the opportunity to share great literature with her #BBRC @LibrarianRyan @Sarahreadstoomuch -letter F-

Butterfinger To clarify, for those who do not know, the Woolworth in Greensboro is now a museum of the Civil Rights Movement and some of the exhibits are just not appropriate for young, immature children to understand. I will also take her to the Holocaust museum in DC, but she still needs a little more time. 4y
LitStephanie It is hard for me to imagine the courage of those lunch counter sit in activists. Cool that you are teaching your kid this stuff early. 4y
CBee I still haven‘t mailed your book! I didn‘t forget - I‘ll do it tomorrow hopefully! 😁 4y

Scochrane26 I haven‘t been to the Greensboro museum, but I went to the MLK museum in Memphis a few yrs ago & it‘s excellent (if you haven‘t been). We took some middle school kids, & I think they got a lot out of it. I‘ll have to check out the Greensboro one. 4y

Butterfinger @Scochrane26 I would like to go there too. I think middle school is a good time to go. 4y
Butterfinger @CBee don't worry. I just appreciate it. 4y
Butterfinger @LitStephanie I don't think she quite understands the sacrifice, but it is opening her eyes to discrimination. Sometimes, I am so proud that the sit-ins began in NC, but also feel shame that it had to be done at all. 4y

A historical fiction picture book about the real Greensboro sit-ins. A great book about perseverance, and perfect for all ages to learn more about. The book could be read as an RA OR GR for teachers to go more in depth about the Civil Rights era in America. The lessons in the story are great to educate the young minds throughout any point in time.
