Little Dog Poems
Little Dog Poems | Kristine O'Connell George
2 posts | 1 read | 1 to read
From cold-nose wake-up to bedtime with a Little Dog-shaped lump under the covers, a day that a little girl spends with her Little Dog is recounted in thirty short, playful poems and enchanting watercolor illustrations. Little Dog protects the little girl from vacuum cleaners and beetles, chases cats, digs up flowers, and waits hopefully as kitchen preparations take place and as popcorn is eaten. The little girl, who loves Little Dog enough to "bake / birthday cookies with / liver powder," retrieves tennis balls, brings home a present from the pet store, and observes how little a wet Little Dog becomes at bath time. A perfect introduction to the pleasures of poetry, this beguiling volume belongs on every young dog lover's bookshelf.

This P picture books is great for elementary ages. Students who are just being introduced to poetry will highly enjoy the poems about Little Dog. This poetry books has images and offers simple text, that would be easy to recite and read aloud together as a class. CR is the best teaching strategy for this poetry book. Scholastic's website provides a great source for teachers who are looking to introduce poetry to their elementary students.

DrSpalding Poetry and the dogs… I‘m in. Choral reading the poems is a great idea. These are very simple poems that students would feel great success. You could build reluctant/lower level readers confidence with poetry like this. Wouldn‘t it be amazing to bring in a therapy dog and do poetry readings while they are present! We are going to have a Read with Darwin the dog station at our next bus event at Hamilton Elementary!❤️🐾 3y

Again, what a cute little cover! Children love dogs, so this illustration would absolutely catch their attention. Little dog poems by Kristine O‘Connell is a NF-P book about a little girls day with a her Little dog. With thirty short poems, students have many choices to choose from and won‘t want to stop. Awarded the Charlotte Zolotow award, Little Dog Poems students will love these haiku style poems and hopefully encourage them to write their

Ryanne.H Own! Because their are over 30 poems in this book I would best utilize this by using PR or SR so students can work together to uncover the beauty of poetry. This teacher guide is actually written by Kristen O‘Connell herself and she encourages teachers who use Little Dog Poems in their classrooms to email her their usage so she can post it on her website. http://kristinegeorge.com/pdfs/Teachers%20Guide%20Fold%20Me%20a%20Poem.pdf UDL principle 7.2 6y
Ryanne.H Could be incorporated for students to share any stories they have about their pets to provide relevance for the children. Because their are 30 poems ESOL 38 could be used so students could read the poems at home with their family. Overall because the poems are haiku format I think students will really appreciate its simplicity and feel encouraged to write their own poems. #UCFLAE3414SP18 6y
LisaMart @Ryanne.H I love dogs too!! A puppy poem book! Say no more! Need this! Love that the resource is written by the author! A teachers guide makes life so much easier! Plus if she posts it on her website that would be so awesome to share with the students. ❤️ 6y
KaitlynN My friend is getting a dog this weekend and I am currently looking for this book on Amazon! How cute! I think relatable characters and topics make poetry so much more accessible. 6y
