Denying History
Denying History: Who Says the Holocaust Never Happened and Why Do They Say It? | Michael Shermer, Alex Grobman
3 posts | 2 read | 3 to read
Denying History takes a bold and in-depth look at those who say the Holocaust never happened and explores the motivations behind such claims. While most commentators have dismissed the Holocaust deniers as antisemitic neo-Nazi thugs who do not deserve a response, historians Michael Shermer and Alex Grobman have immersed themselves in the minds and culture of these Holocaust "revisionists." In the process, they show how we can be certain that the Holocaust happened and, for that matter, how we can confirm any historical event. This edition is expanded with a new chapter and epilogue examining current, shockingly mainstream revisionism.

So. Good. Nerdy? Yes. A lot of academic terms in the beginning? Yes. Nuanced, full of proof from various accounts, eyewitnesses, Letters, blueprints etc? Yes. Prepared me more for the next time I meet a Holocaust denier? Absolutely. I now know not only a lot more of my own arguments, I know what the deniers tend to argue too. Bring it on. #dontmesswiththehistoryteacher

Libby1 Have you seen the British movie Denial that came out last year? It‘s based on the tagged book. 6y

Has anyone read this? Or similar books on this topic? I just had my very first conversation with å Holocaust denier and I feel sick and want to cry. I'm a history teacher. I spent 8 years at uni. I tolk a master class called genocide and human rights. I've been to a camp. I've read countless witness accounts, the latest only a few days ago. I don't understand how anyone can hold this view- nor patronize me with a (continues in comments)

HannaPolkadots "I understand if the truth is too controversial for you." It's not the controverse that bothers me - it's the blatant disregard for truth! Sorry for the long rant, I'm too stunned to think and all of Norway is asleep so I have no one to rant to. Book recommendations on this topic would be much appreciated ? 6y
ephemeralwaltz Has anyone read it? 6y

HannaPolkadots You said it, @AmyG - sad and frightening. 6y
Eggs Ignorant is a word that comes to mind for the deny-ers, considering all the hard evidence that exists. 6y
Notafraidofwords I never understood how this could be. 6y
cobwebmoth I don't understand the people that try to deny everything that happened. My great-grandfather was imprisoned in a camp. 6y
