X-Men: Grand Design
X-Men: Grand Design | Ed Piskor
4 posts | 1 read
Over six tumultuous decades, the X-Men have carved a singular place in comic book lore and popular culture. From their riotous birth in the '60s, to their legendary reboot in the '70s, to their attitude adjustment in the '90s, to their battle against extinction in the '00s, the X-Men have remained unquestionably relevant to generations of readers, the ultimate underdogs in an increasingly complicated world. Now, New York Times-best-selling author Ed Piskor (Hip-Hop Family Tree, Wizzywig) takes you on a pulse-pounding tour of X-Men history unlike anything you've ever experienced before, an intricate labor of love that stitches together hundreds of classic and obscure stories into one seamless masterpiece of X-Men lore. This volume collects X-MEN: GRAND DESIGN and includes X-MEN #1 from 1963, masterfully recolored by Ed, along with other extras including recolored classic pinups. Presented in the same dynamic, oversized format of the best-selling Hip Hop Family Tree.

Whether you're an initiated X-fan or a new-comer to Marvel's mighty Mutants or simply a fan of fabulous, quirky comics with an indie feel, X-Men: Grand Design cannot be missed.

Ha!

I'm not sure how much of this Silver Age material is stuff Piskor reworked to streamline it and how much is stuff I've plain forgot. It's been a couple years since I read early X-Men, and to be honest it's mostly worth forgetting. The best thing in the whole Silver Age is the time Magneto uses his magnetic personality to hypnotize Angel's parents.

Magnets really can do anything.

Another week; another brand new X-book on for $0.99. DAMMIT, comiXology.

I bought the first half of this sweeping recap during a previous $0.99 sale and hoped the rest of it would eventually turn up for the same price. Now here we are.

Here is a sneak peak at some books coming out tomorrow. I cannot recommend Exit Stage Left highly enough. It‘s Snagglepuss as Tennessee Williams and it is WONDERFUL.
