This was a whole ride! Just over the top and Gothic and so fun. There is plenty of problematic here and this reads as very old-school romance but if you're up for it, Macnish is a good time. I will totally add the other books in the series to my TBR. Though I am sure they will not be as weird as this one (what with the grave robbing and midnight manhunts and such).

Bailedbailed

Ooo, I couldn't do it. Bailed at p. 125 of 328. There's far too much melodrama and not nearly enough resurrection men, an utter lacking in plot and entirely overboard with skeevy consent issues. Every time the heroine sets a reasonable boundary for the hero, she ruins it by getting all soppy-eyed and musing on what a gorgeous prince of a man he is.

#vacationread No. 2, hurry up and wait.

esurient I stopped just after a scene where I seriously thought the hero was going to rape the heroine, and thought 'Why am I doing this to myself? There are other books to read.' 5y
esurient Examples of reasonable boundaries: come sit by the fire, you're naked and just woke from a coma; hello, I have just saved your life, don't order me around; you are smothering the fire, put the fuel on THIS way. 5y

#pricedrop hm, I'm tempted. The strongest negative review I'm seeing is one who thought it was a bit dark for a romance, with all the body-stealing and Frankenstein effects.

Stealing Midnight was so hard for me to get into for some reason, but determined to read a library hold, I powered through. Very good, slightly overdramatic, but the flowery language added a fantasy suggestion that was suggested in the book, but never really acted upon. By the time they were confessing, I was hanging on every word. ❤🦄😭

This book though. MY HEART HURTS. I wasn't even really into it, but I got it from the library and I figured I keep putting holds on it to read it, I should read it, but I kept putting things in front of it and now it feels like my soul has spilled out of me and onto my desk.
