The Strange Fate of Kitty Easton
The Strange Fate of Kitty Easton | Elizabeth Speller
9 posts | 7 read | 1 to read
"Leisurely and absorbing . . . a series to be savoured."The Guardian (UK) When Great War veteran Laurence Bartram arrives in Easton Deadall, he is struck by the beauty of the crumbling manor, venerable church, and memorial to the villages soldiers. But despite this idyllic setting, Easton Deadall remains haunted by tragedy. In 1911, five-year-old Kitty Easton disappeared from her bed and has not been seen since. While Lawrence is visiting, a young maid vanishes in a sinister echo of Kittys disappearance. And when a body is discovered in the manors ancient church, Laurence is drawn into the grounds forgotten places, where deadly secrets lie in wait. "Spellers follow-up to her acclaimed debut, The Return of Captain John Emmett, is a well-crafted mystery with intriguing historical details and measured pacing that creates suspense. Fans of Jacqueline Winspears Maisie Dobbs series and readers who enjoy well-drawn characters in historicals will add this to their wish list."Library Journal

Look what returned home this weekend! It was wonderful to read all the comments. We all had so many similar thoughts. This was a difficult book to get into but in the end I was happy to have stuck with it. Needless to say I will not be visiting Easton Deadall again.

Thank you. #GroupR for a wonderful journey and for sharing your book thoughts! #LPMBC

Just too many characters and too disjointed. But the whole #LMPBC experience has been fun. I‘ll be sending this out in the mail next week. @aroc @MrsGreen @Marmie7

I really wanted to like this one. It sounded Intriguing. It was so slow moving and by the end I just wanted to be done. I still gave it ⭐⭐ for the last few chapters. On it's way to @Wife! #lmpbc #groupr

Nebklvr I liked her other novel better. 6y

This has a painfully slow beginning. It reminded me of #thegirlwiththedragontattoo and how you have to suffer through the first 2/3 of the book before it gets going. In the need, I was intrigued and the story zipped right along. Glad I suffered through ☺️
On it‘s way to you soon @Marmie7 for #groupr #lmpbc

aroc Felt the same way! 6y

Ok #GroupR I got three. 1. What happened to a sister found bloodied in a rose garden? 2. What happened to Kitty Easton in 1911? 3. Will Clara choose her career?
Let me know which one!
