Although bank robber Jack Foley is imprisoned in Florida & not in California, this book came to mind. I read this one years ago. It was when a lot of Leonard's books were being adapted & I read it right before the Clooney/Lopez adaptation was released which I recall really enjoying. Although I haven't revisited the book, I loved it at the time & have since read several others. He's one of the best at writing snappy dialogue.

Karen Sisco is a US Marshal on the job outside a prison during a breakout, and accidentally gets cozy with escaped bank robber Jack Foley in the trunk of her car. And then...they can‘t quite seem to stay away from each other. A steamy thriller with snappy writing.

I haven‘t been on here in ages and I‘ve missed this wonderful bookworm community! Hey there Litsy! 👋🏻 Can‘t get enough of this man‘s crimecapades. I‘ve been on a Leonard marathon and it continues with Out of Sight, which was turned into a cinematic thriller in the late nineties starring George Clooney.
