The New Dark
The New Dark | Lorraine Thomson
5 posts | 4 read | 4 to read
She thought she knew who she was and where she came from. Then her home was destroyed. Her brother lost amongst the ashes. And the boy she loves vanished. She owed her own survival to a mutant - the very forces behind the destruction. Now Sorrel will never be the same again. There is no "Before", there is only "Now". Because now there's no internet, no TV, no power grid. Food is scarce, and the world's a hostile place. But Sorrel lives a quiet life in the tiny settlement of Amat. It's all she's ever known ... Until a gang of marauding mutants destroys the village, snatching her brother Eli, and David, her boyfriend. Sorrel sets out after them, embarking on a journey fraught with danger. Can she survive? The only thing that keeps her going is Eli and David. They are out there somewhere. They must be alive. And if she has her way, she will find them. THE NEW DARK is the first book in a new YA-trilogy and will be published in November 2017. The second and third books in the series (THE NEW DAWN, THE NEW DAY) will be released in 2018.

Mehso-so

Well I needn't have worried about starting the first book of a trilogy that wasn't complete as I don't think I'll be in a rush to finish this one. You know the saying 'damning with faint praise'? This book was OK.

Can't really put my finger on what was lacking but lacking it was. Depth, maybe? Context? That je ne sais quoi that makes you want to invest your time/money in 2 more books?

Also I picked up a lot of influences ... cont in comments 👇

Starting this one today. Thank you #netgalley

It's the first of a trilogy. And this is something that I never normally do. That is starting a trilogy or series before all parts of it are out. I even did it with Potter. I guess I have no patience - I have to know what happens next immediately. The thought of waiting makes me anxious.

Anyone else do this? Or is it just me?

AceOnRoam I don't. I usually read book 1 to trial the series, even if they are still being written. 6y
AceOnRoam Love that cover. Is that the paperwhite? 6y
GatheringBooks i know what you mean. i usually wait until all the books are out before i start reading. been burned thoroughly by george rr martin - learned my lesson. ;) (edited) 6y

Owlizabeth This is why I have The Name of the Wind sitting (not so) patiently on my shelf! 6y
MicrobeMom I don‘t. However I usually reread the previous books before I read the new one. 6y
minkyb Sometimes I just get impatient but it is like torture waiting for the next in a series. 6y
readingjedi @AceOnRoam Yes it is. I actually retook this photo several times as I couldn't figure out why I was getting a light flare ... it's part of the cover 🤔😣🤣 6y

Pickpick

I found this a quick read and I did like it - I expect there will be another in the series as it was left on such an open ending

#CurrentlyReading this - received from #NetGalley for an honest review- thought it sounded like a good dystopian book
