Over and Under the Pond
Over and Under the Pond | Kate Messner
10 posts | 11 read | 4 to read
In this gorgeous companion to the acclaimed Over and Under the Snow and Up in the Garden and Down in the Dirt, Kate Messner and Christopher Silas Neal bring to life a secret underwater world. In this book, readers will discover the plants and animals that make up the rich, interconnected ecosystem of a mountain pond. Over the pond, the water is a mirror, reflecting the sky. But under the pond is a hidden world of minnows darting, beavers diving, tadpoles growing. These and many other secrets are waiting to be discovered...over and under the pond.

This book has been our favorite library find this week. Julian and I are always excited to read anything about nature, especially if it relates to things we can explore on the farm. The illustrations are beautiful and it includes species that are not as common in children's books (e.g., whirligig beetles). The flow of the words is soothing, as well. We might need to purchase this one for our collection.

This is a great way to get students learning about ecosystems! I think it‘s so cool you can use reading to learn other subjects!

I love this book because I think it might spark kids interest and make them want to go exploring with their parents. If it was available, it could be an assignment to have parents go out with children and observe what they see all around them.

This book has such a cute story line! It demonstrates a bonding moment between parent and child and the child learning about what‘s under and above the water he‘s on. This would be great when learning about habitats because it discusses wildlife in and around the water.

I love how the idea of an ecosystem—with its flora and fauna, predators and prey—is presented in this book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This series is fabulous! I loved the varied perspectives in the illustrations further emphasizing the over and under. Also the extra info in the back is great: explanation of the ecosystem depicted, facts about the animals shown, and suggestions for further reading. Lovely! Toddler enjoyed finding the animals and the boat on each page. #babyreads #science #nature #picturebooks

On the road with my family and I loaded a few books onto my Kindle. This one caught my eye and I was so excited to see illustrations with black people. Can't wait to check it out!

BellaBookNook @Chelleo Isn't it pretty. Because the topic is the sea, they used beautiful shades of blue. 7y
