Just One Touch: A Slow Burn Novel
Just One Touch: A Slow Burn Novel | Maya Banks
4 posts | 4 read
#1 USA Today and New York Times bestselling author Maya Banks continues her suspenseful and sizzling Slow Burn series with the fifth book featuring the men and women of Devereaux Security Services.Raised in a strict religious cult since she was a young girl, Jenna has no connection to the outside world beyond vague flashes of memory that seem to be from another life. Memories she clings to when the cult leaders discover her extraordinary ability to heal--and punish her. Years held captive and forced to do the cult's bidding have turned Jenna into a meek, timid woman...or so they think. In truth, she is merely biding her time, waiting for the perfect moment to escape. When a terrified young woman tries to steal the SUV of Devereaux Security's toughest recruit, Isaac's anger quickly turns into a strange sort of protectiveness for the beautiful, bruised stranger. But when they are caught in a firestorm of bullets and Isaac is hit, he's sure the end is near, until Jenna touches him and closes his wounds. As he tries to bring Jenna to safety, she refuses to tell him what danger haunts her or how she healed him, but Isaac vows to do whatever it takes to gain her trust...and her heart. Because with just one touch, Isaac knows he wants Jenna to be his--forever.

If this book was just Jenna escaping a cult that kept her prisoner for her healing touch and Isaac protecting her I would have loved it. But Isaac straight up ruined this book for me with his desperate declarations of love and extreme clinginess. It was super weird and not romantic at all -especially considering Jennas history. In the book she loved it, but in reality he came off like a stalker.I ended up skimming pages and pages of his nonsense.

I finished and loved the Tearling books but they are dark. So now onto something completely different!

Anyone know if this series has to be read in order? Will I be lost if I read this book? The back makes it sound like it can standalone. Generally, I wouldn't read out of order. But I got my hands on an ARC!

thors.thunder You won't be lost, but it is better to have read the other books before. Characters from the other slow burn books make many appearances and it probably will make more sense to know who they are and not spoil the other books - which are all GREAT!! 7y
hongim I am almost done. I am not all that lost on the characters, I would have preferred to read the others first. But are the other guys so over the top possessive. 7y
