The Trateri are about to learn a vital lesson of the Broken Lands. Deep in the remote expanse where anything can happen, it pays to be on a pathfinder's good side. Nobody ventures beyond their village walls. Nobody sane that is. Monstrous creatures and deadly mysteries wait out there. Lucky for the people she serves, Shea's not exactly sane. As a pathfinder, it's her job to face what others fear and protect her charges from the dangers that await in the Broken Lands. It's not an easy job, but she's the best at what she does. When the people she serves betray her, Shea must rely on her wits and skill to survive the Trateri, a barbarian horde sweeping in to conquer the Lowlands, and their warlord, a man as dangerous as he is compelling. Her actions and the decisions she makes might mean the difference between life or death. Danger looms on the horizon and a partnership with the Warlord may be the only thing preventing the destruction of everything she holds dear.

A great beginning to a really interesting series! Kira has survived a terrible childhood, war and abandonment... she now lives as a space scavenger with her magical AI JIN. She ends up getting herself noticed by a powerful alien race and needs to help smooth over their treaty with the humans. Also a small #romantsy starting and really excellent world building (This book is not in the database)

Hold the !@#$ on! Are you telling me that there is a lead female character that put in hard work for her talent? No, POOF! Heroine has magical powers that make her some kind of unicorn, that everyone is out to get?

Are we entirely sure on this...?

Yeah, slightly mystified here people. But there is a heroine just like that in this book. Is she flawed? Yes. Hot Warlord wants her? Check. Insta-love? No. Will you laugh and roll your eyes? Yep. 😏

The story was good except that there were some gaps that bothered me just a little bit. And I wanted more except that it was the end of the story already. Overall this was entertaining and enjoyable with a strong warlord and a smart and feisty h in a world full of danger with beasts and the unknown with traitors in their midst with a plot to wrest power from the warlord.
