Omi‘s story is much like my mother-in-law‘s. Born in San Francisco to Japanese immigrant parents, Omi and his family were sent to incarceration camps by the U.S. government following Pearl Harbor. It‘s an important and tragic part of history, that‘s often forgotten. The writing in this introductory story is clunky and don‘t get me started on the title. (See full review.) It‘s between pick and so-so for me. ⬇️

BarbaraTheBibliophage The quote is from an exhibit about the camps and the 1988 reparations running now at the National Museum of American History. It‘s part of the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. and worth the time. Also, it‘s free. 7y
readinginthedark That‘s too bad. I read When the Emperor Was Divine some years ago and thought that was very well-done. Have you read it?
