Tempting Hymn
Tempting Hymn | Jennifer Hallock
4 posts | 1 read | 2 to read
Jonas Vanderburg volunteered his family for mission work in the Philippines, only to lose his wife and daughters in the 1902 cholera epidemic. He wishes his nurse would let him die, too.
Rosa Ramos wants nothing more to do with American men. Her previous Yankee lover left her with a ruined reputation and a child to raise alone. A talented nurse at a provincial hospital, she must now care for another American, this time a missionary whose friends believe her beyond redemption.

Walking around Casa Gorordo strongly reminded me of @jenniferhallock's books because she writes historical romance set in the Philippines, and in the Visayas region specifically. I could imagine her characters living in a house like Casa Gorordo.

This article from the Manila Bulletin talks about the whole Sugar Sun historical romance series, but there is a little more about the challenges of writing Tempting Hymn than the others. Thanks to Ana Valenzuela for putting together my ramblings into a coherent piece. Online version is at http://lifestyle.mb.com.ph/2017/03/06/an-american-love-story-in-the-philippines #romantsy #amwriting #amwritingromance

Reading my most recent ARC on the way to dinner with a friend. All three of her books are history-heavy historical romances set in the Phillipines during the American colonial era. I've really enjoyed the first two so looking forward to this one! #romantsy #historicalromance

Chachic I have this in my Kindle too! 7y
danistclair @Chachic Yay, ARC twinsies!! Have you read it yet? 7y
Chachic Not yet haha I need to read her books soon! She has an upcoming talk in Manila and I wish I could attend. 7y

BookThingo OMG. 7y
danistclair @Chachic Yes, all the stuff that's happening at Ayala museum this month looks so good! I really hope you enjoy the books 7y
EloisaJames I misread that as Tempting Hymen! 7y
danistclair @EloisaJames haha, unfortunately not, but you could be a trendsetter and make hymen titles the next big thing in romance novel naming? 7y
EloisaJames @danistclair lol! I can imagine my editor's face when I announced my next book. I'm writing about the Wildes, so that would be Wilde Hymen! 7y
danistclair @EloisaJames Yesss! What a name! 7y
Chachic It's finally on Litsy, yay! And @jenniferhallock is also here now. 7y
danistclair @Chachic wooooo, thanks for that! Jen and I already connected yesterday but I didn't know about the title! 7y
Chachic @danistclair I changed my post too, to reflect the correct title. 7y
danistclair @Chachic I've done that too now! TBH, it's been so long I'd pretty much forgotten it was under another title! 7y
Chachic I noticed because sometimes when I'm reading a book, I click on the title to see the other posts about it. 7y

#bookanddinner! Review copy of Tempting Hymn (historical romance set in the Philippines! Not yet on Litsy so I'm tagging another book by the author). This reminds me that I still need to read Under the Sugar Sun. Dinner is called rainbow bowl and has brown rice, chicken, veggies, runny egg, salsa verde and pineapple kimchi.

8little_paws Dinner looks fantastic! 7y
Chachic @8little_paws It was yummy but a bit too spicy for me because of the pineapple kimchi. 7y
JayneChanger So jealous. I love Jennifer! 7y
Chachic @JayneChanger I really need to start reading her books! I've had them on my TBR pile for ages. 7y
