Pickpick

This F book is the 15th in the Magic Tree House series. The series is about Jack and Annie, two kids who travel through time in their magic tree house. This time their adventure takes them back to ancient Ireland, the land of the Vikings. As a novel for beginners, this book could be utilized for IR or as an option for LC. #ucflae3414f17

cheyennewilliams https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/lesson-plans/teaching-content/viking-ships-s... This link will take you to a Scholastic lesson plan for this book. It includes activities for both social studies and language arts. I really liked the Viking internet scavenger hunt where students are to search websites bookmarked by the teacher to find an interesting fact about the Vikings and design their own ship's prow. cheyennewilliams UDL strategy 2.1: clarify vocabulary and symbols. As students read the book (or have the book read to them) be sure to clarify any new and challenging vocabulary, especially any Viking-related vocabulary. 6y
cheyennewilliams EL strategy 23: structure advanced organizers consisting of new terminology that learners will encounter in the new lesson and vocabulary to be reviewed. In order to accommodate EL's, teachers should provide graphic organizers for any important/challenging vocabulary that the students will encounter in the text. Students can complete/review this as a class before reading so that everyone will be familiar with the meanings of the new words. 6y
