Tarka the Otter
Tarka the Otter | Henry Williamson
2 posts | 6 read | 9 to read
In the wild there is no safety. The otter cub Tarka grows up with his mother and sisters, learning to swim, catch fish - and to fear the cry of the hunter and the flash of the metal trap. Soon he must fend for himself, travelling through rivers, woods, moors, ponds and out to sea, sometimes with the female otters White-tip and Greymuzzle, always on the run. Eventually, chased by a pack of hounds, he meets his nemesis, the fearsome dog Deadlock, and must fight for his life.

3⭐️ This book is beautifully written, but it‘s full of unfamiliar vocabs (dialects) that made it hard for me to enjoy. I thought about how cruel human beings are towards animals; we hunted them for sports, and in this modern era industrial animal farming is probably the worst of cruelty 😞

Got my booster shot today. So far so good, except for the sore arm. Resting now with Tarka. I always like writings about nature, and the description about the river ecosystem is amazingly vivid here. Loving it! 😍

slategreyskies I‘m getting my booster this afternoon. Glad to hear you‘re okay so far! 💕 2y
