Edith Bouvier Beale of Grey Gardens
Edith Bouvier Beale of Grey Gardens: A Life in Pictures | Eva Marie Beale, Anne Verlhac
1 post | 1 read | 3 to read
Conceived by members of the Beale family, this book traces a line from Edie's childhood through her heady days as a young socialite to her later years at Grey Gardens, offering unprecedented access to the personal history of this iconic woman. She is best known for her appearance in the critically acclaimed 1975 film Grey Gardens - a documentary exploring the reclusive lives of Beale and her mother, who were related to Jaqueline Onassis. The film is now a cult classic.

🎧Is anyone else as fascinated as I am with Big Edie and Little Edie of Grey Gardens? I was spellbound watching the 1975 documentary. The Bowery Boys‘ most recent podcast discusses the lives of the women. I‘m also interested in reading the tagged book now too.

Jess_Read_This @Leftcoastzen @emilyhaldi Another good book that was mentioned in the podcast that is newer is Marble Faun of Grey Gardens. It is recently co-written with the young man that helped them out while they lived there. He was interviewed on the podcast as well. (edited) 6y
readinginthedark Their story is so sad. Have you heard the musical? I need to read the books you tagged! 6y
mrp27 So fascinated!! What a story. Saw the documentary and the HBO Drew Barrymore Grey Gardens. I need to listen to this. 6y
Jess_Read_This @readinginthedark I just learned about the musical through the podcast. I‘ve only watched the documentary. I‘m just so moved/saddened to see these vibrant women in their living conditions. Listening to them talk about books, music, events, and quote from Books/music just floors me at the level of education and culture they must have had. I want to read the books now! 6y
Jess_Read_This @mrp27 I haven‘t watched the HBO show and want to now! 6y
mrp27 @Jess_Read_This I liked it! You should definitely watch. Jessica Lang plays the mom and of course Barrymore plays Edie. 6y
