Day of War
Day of War | Cliff Graham
3 posts | 6 read
In ancient Israel, at the crossroads of the great trading routes, a man named Benaiah is searching for a fresh start in life. He has joined a band of soldiers led by a warlord named David, seeking to bury the past that refuses to leave him. Their ragged army is disgruntled and full of reckless men. Some are loyal to David, but others are only with him for the promise of captured wealth. While the ruthless and increasingly mad King Saul marches hopelessly against the powerful Philistines, loyal son Jonathan in tow, the land of the Hebrew tribes has never been more despondent—and more in need of rescue. Over the course of ten days, from snowy mountain passes to sword-wracked battlefields, Benaiah and his fellow mercenaries must call upon every skill they have to survive and establish the throne for David—if they don’t kill each other first. Day of War brings to life the exploits of the Mighty Men of Israel, a rag-tag band of disgruntled warriors on the run with David, the soon-to-be King. Their legendary deeds are recorded in 2 Samuel 23 and 1 Chronicles 11

Pickpick

Definitely a good book. A Christian fiction that does not sugar coat reality. His later works seem to kind have this worship of senior non commissioned officers.

Mehso-so

Met the author at a conference last year and was intrigued by the plot and premise. But the book plods along and never picks up any momentum. I got about 11 chapters in and had to quit.

UPDATE: Had several friends tell me what a great read this was so I picked up where I left off and gave it another try. The second half held my interest better than the first did and I'll likely check out the second in the series.

I usually try hard not to post a bad review...I hated this book....I almost bailed twice but I trudged on. I cannot express my agony...it was boring, very explicit and to me...just bad. So sorry to the author who did a lot of research and worked very hard on this book....totally my opinion

kim.guernsey Next time, just bail. Too many good books out there to waste precious time on a dud. 7y
Reecaspieces @AReaderWhoMoms...totally agree with you and usually I do...no idea why I struggled to finish...sigh 7y
drokka Sometimes when authors obviously do a lot of research but the novels fall flat, I always wonder if they should have been encouraged to write a non-fiction. 7y

OkieMountaineer Really tried to like it. I met the author at a conference last year and the plot and premise seemed like something I'd enjoy but i have to agree. It just plods along and never seems to pick up momentum. 6y
