Who Was Sally Ride?
Who Was Sally Ride? | Megan Stine
2 posts | 3 read | 1 to read
In 1978, Sally Ride, a PhD candidate at Standford University, responded to a newspaper ad to join the US astronaut program. She was accepted and became the first American woman astronaut to fly in space! Among her other accomplishments, she played tennis like a professional, was an astrophysicist who helped develop a robotic arm for space shuttles, and later, through Sally Ride Science, worked to make science cool and accessible for girls. Sally Ride, who died on July 23, 2012, will continue to inspire young children.

This B tells about the first American women astronaut to fly in space is a great read with women‘s history month coming up this would be a good IR for any student interested in space. https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com has other great biographies and children‘s books. UDL principle 7.3 minimize threats and distractions and ELL strategy 9 teach note-taking strategies would fit well with this book. #UCFLAE3414sp20

DrSpalding Penguin is an excellent publishing company. Good idea to use their resource for these amazing bobble head biography books. English learner strategy 28 is perfect for this genre. Check it out! (edited) 4y

Pickpick

Who Was Sally Ride? By Megan Stine and illustrated by Ted Hammond is a B chapter book focusing on the life of the first woman astronaut in space! This book talks about her life before she blasted off into space as well. This chapter book includes a few pictures and I would use this book as a IR. This book and the whole Who Was series would be a great resource for a book report.

UDL: 5.1
I will allow the students to either handwrite, type, or draw the letter to the Sally Ride Foundation.
ESOL: 28. Provide biographies of significant men and women from different
countries
The book is a biography.
