I FINISHED AN 8 HOUR AUDIOBOOK!!! Didn‘t think I had it in me!

This was delightful - reading this again as a proper adult made this hit so much harder. His relationship with his mum & her early death plus the impacts of the “Nedlands Monster” serial killer 💔

I laughed so hard at his childhood recollections of his friends trying to one up each other by seeing who could peel the largest section of sunburnt skin off their backs…

CarolynM Getting sunburnt was just a fact of life when I was a child (although I rarely got to the full-on peeling stage) Now all I can think about when I see things like that is "melanoma"? 1y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @CarolynM, for sure! His descriptions were extra funny as his family was originally from Melbourne - so his Mum is extra horrified by shoeless, sunburnt children - and is convinced that her kids will get “boiled brain” from being out in the hot sun. They tease her relentlessly over this. 1y

Another from the National Portrait Gallery? Don‘t mind if I do! I‘ve only ever read The Shark Net by Robert Drewe and that was because it was a set text for year 11 Literature but despite not being something I‘d have chosen to read it ended up being my favourite set text.

🖼 Robert Drewe (in the swell) by Nicholas Harding, 2006, oil on Belgium linen.

It's not quite a #loveozya rainbow stack but they are all written by Aussie authors...
