'The hype is all true' Sunday Telegraph Nick McDonell's electrifying novel tells the story of a fictional drug called Twelve and its devastating effects on the beautiful rich and desperate poor of New York City. From page one, this novel pulsates towards its apocalyptic climax. Twelve is cool, cruel and utterly compulsive. 'Bret Easton Ellis territory...an extraordinary assured debut' Harper & Queen 'McDonell is an authentic talent and, long after the storms of hype have died away, his novel will endure as a snapshot of his generation' Observer 'Consistently brilliant... One of the most exciting new writers around' Independent on Sunday 'A brilliant satirical debut' Time Out 'A compulsive elegy to wasted, privileged youth, lives up to the hype... lean, elegant and bleakly witty' Elle

Read this at the beginning of Super Storm Sandy. Don't remember a damn thing about it. I'm not sure if it's because I didn't like it or because that damn storm was so traumatic 🤷🏻‍♀️

Eggs It would be hard to concentrate with the anxiety/trauma of such a devastating storm ⛈️ 12mo
TheBookgeekFrau @AmyG I lived in Putnam County, NY. No power for 10 days and couldn't get out of my road four days. Luckily we had a generator but had to conserve propane bc the propane co didn't know when it would be able to get their trucks on the road. So thankful that was our biggest worry after all was said and done. 12mo
TheBookgeekFrau @Eggs The wind was unreal. We all slept in the living room for worry of trees coming down and crashing into the upstairs bedrooms. Thankfully, nothing like that happened 12mo
AmyG @TheBookgeekFrau The wind! My husband was Mayor of our town and he was out with the police driving around town. I was a nervous wreck that a tree would fall on our house. In the morning we saw that one fell on the house across the street. 12mo
TheBookgeekFrau @AmyG Your husband is a brave man! Just hearing the wind was scary enough, I couldn't imagine being out in it!!!! 12mo
