Mehso-so

This is my least favorite Bujold so far. I usually love her romances—but that‘s because the character interactions largely serve the plot, whereas in this book it‘s the other way round. I was fascinated by the worldbuilding and the magic of the knives, but the second half of the book dragged with all the focus being on the couple. The ending is abrupt, but it was originally conceived as a single book—I may read the second to get more of the world!

I loved this when it first came out but have never read it since. How wonderful to find it still lives up to its title. Such strong, appealing characters who somehow find each other.

esurient Oh, wow. I enjoyed this series, but that cover looks awful. 5y
SkeletonKey @esurient - Right? 😂 she‘s such a good writer but I‘m having trouble getting past the age difference as well. 5y
esurient @SkeletonKey Fair point! My memories recall him being very respectful and her becoming increasingly more assertive (not that she started especially unassertive) which helped a lot for me. That said, i prefer on the whole the Chalion series. 5y

Pickpick

My third book finished this year. A sweet love story set in a fantasy world. I was a little creeped out by the age difference between the two main characters, but if you can get past it, a very engaging book.
