Gotham City Sirens Book One
Gotham City Sirens Book One | Paul Dini
4 posts | 4 read | 1 to read
This graphic novel features the bad girls of Gotham City! Catwoman, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn are tired of playing by other people's rules regardless of which side of the law they're on. These tough ladies have a new agenda that's all their own, and they'll use any means necessary to pursue it. But can they get along and work as a team? And who will get hurt along the way?

Nestled amongst my haul from EB Expo is a copy of Gotham City Sirens: Book One. I predict a summer of comic books and air conditioning!

Finishing this volume up this morning-- it's fun and I like seeing these three together. 🐱🌿▪️♦️🃏 I have been reading a lot of graphic novels this year and am always looking for recommendations. Let me know if there's anything I should check out! Superhero comics or otherwise. I'm interested in them all🙃

ohyeahthatgirl My favorites right now are Lumberjanes and Harrow County. I don't ususally do superhero comics, but I've really liked the Coates run of Black Panther comics 7y
HedgeWhitney Paul Dini is amazing. ❤️ 7y
Bkwrm7 I have enjoyed Mockingbird, Black Panther, and Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur this year. 7y
Zelma I'm not into superheroes so much so my recent favorites have been Scott Pilgrim, Aya, The Unwritten, and Giant Days. 7y

Day 10 - #comics Harley Quinn has been my favorite comic book character since I saw her in the Batman Animated Series. I love the Gotham City Sirens comics that feature Harley, Poison Ivy and Catwoman. #riotgrams

Yay, I got to see a lot of Poison Ivy! I would commit several felonies to have her abilities. I feel like Catwoman wasn't really developed that much and considering this is a 13 issue collection, that's pretty disappointing. Hopefully v.3 will show more character development. I also think Harley in action was underplayed a little; had I not previously read her solo comic, I wouldn't have known from this what she actually does. But still v cool!!!

readinginthedark Catwoman is my favorite anti-hero of all time, and I feel like the newer comics underplay/undervalue her. 😕 7y
literarymermaid @readinginthedark She's my fave too! Ever since Batman Returns in the 90's. The comics aren't my favorite version of her, though. For that, I must turn to the old cartoon. 7y
queerbookreader @readinginthedark Even in her own solo series? (there are like at least two of those, right? The new 52 and this other one by is it Ed brudabaker? Or however you spell it) 7y

queerbookreader @readinginthedark I read a stand-alone comic of her, can't remember the name (she was in Italy and on a boat a lot of the time and fucked with riddler) and it totally showcased her character better in that one, but in this one she's way more boyish and sporty which I like better than the femme fatale that's always been classic for her 7y
queerbookreader @StoredFeminism Do you not totally adore Eartha Kitt as Catwoman in the old 60s series?????? Selina Kyle will forever look like her in my mind 7y
literarymermaid @lemonlime799 I do adore her, but Catwoman was a formative character for me. She was a love interest whose story was not co-opted by the hero. It sounds crazy to some but I had hoped as kid to have a relationship like Catwoman and Batman. Yes, I was weird kid and things aren't much less so now. Still, those two made me fall in love with the character, everyone after has been icing on the cake. 7y
literarymermaid Just realized that I didn't include that I had seen them first 7y
readinginthedark @StoredFeminism @lemonlime799 She's alright in the newer ones, just not as great. My favorite storyline for her was in the early 90s (although some of that may be nostalgia), when she was kicking bad guy butt all by herself for hurting stray cats and poor people and dealing drugs! Since Batman wasn't involved, her sexuality came less into play except as a way to win the bad guys' trust (as a date, not doing the nasty lol). 7y
